The multi-tooth profile has twelve small teeth. The individual teeth are much finer than in the TORX® profile. Thanks to the twelve teeth, the force distribution is good. Similarly to the TORX® profile, there is a large area for the driving force, thus enabling the transfer of high torques.
The multi-tooth profile continues to be widely used in the automotive industry, for example, wherever high torques are required to transfer high tensile forces and it also prevents unauthorised tampering with the screws.
Due to its very fine contours and the associated engagement with the screw head, any dirt in the profile of the screw head can have a detrimental effect on function. Thus, any dirt that has accumulated in the screw head can prevent the full insertion of the bit. As a result of this and the conical shape of the multi-tooth, the bit acts rather like a cutter and destroys both screw and tool.
